The “Obsession” series focuses on the voyeuristic tendency common to all humans but generally repressed and publicly decried. Faced with a provocative scene, the first reaction of a person is to be surprised by the mix and the audacity of the proposals. Although this reaction is found in the majority of people, it is not necessarily expressed by audible language and can also be expressed in the form of internal dialogue. This series seeks to unveil this hidden language and expose it in the form of pictorial expression. In these works Persian calligraphy and erotic Persian onomatopoeia merge with images from both Iranian history and Western iconography.This association would not be complete without the interaction of the public. If these works, closely related to the Persian language, can sometimes be difficult to decipher for a foreign public, he nevertheless relies on their strong symbolism and plays with humor on the ambiguity and the gap that can exist between Western fantasies and the reality of Iran. The highlighting of cultural contrasts is therefore all the stronger here as Mehdi Mirbagheri can now confront his works with the eyes of international spectators and enrich his creative process with these new reactions.
